We Are Pirge...

Once upon a time, during the devastating Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, one of the young Turks migrating to Anatolia was Mehmet. Having endured the hardships of war, Mehmet came from the Balkans to Anatolia in search of a new life.

Standing in front of "Temiz İş Bıçakçısı," a knife shop in the Okçular Bazaar, Mehmet felt a passion and talent stirring inside him. That moment marked a turning point in his life; he began working as an apprentice in the knife workshop of master craftsman Yahya Usta.

Over the years, Mehmet trained under Yahya Usta, and after Yahya Usta's passing, Mehmet carried on the craft, just as his mentor had taught him. Now known as "Mehmet Usta" (Master Mehmet), he took over the workshop and ran it on his own. For many years, Mehmet not only showcased his craftsmanship but also dedicated himself to teaching the trade to the next generation, ensuring the legacy continued.

When the Surname Law was enacted, Mehmet took the surname "Pirge," which means "Master Trainer."

As time passed, the business grew due to Mehmet Usta's efforts. His son, İsmail Pirge, inherited the knife-making craft from his father and focused on expanding the business. Under İsmail Pirge’s leadership, the company expanded its trade volume and entered international markets, with the first exports made to Egypt and Iraq.

The Pirge family has upheld the tradition of mastery and embraced technological innovations across generations. İsmail Pirge’s son, Feyzi Pirge, took over the responsibility, striving to incorporate the innovations of his era into the business.

When Mehmet Pirge, the only son of Feyzi Pirge, took over at a young age, he imported Turkey's first knife sharpening machine, marking a new era for Bursa's knife-making industry. This technological innovation shifted the knife trade towards mechanization, laying the foundation for its modern structure.

With these advancements, the Pirge family has transformed into a large family of over 250 members with a legacy spanning 145 years. Today, the Pirge culture, now led by the 5th generation of the family, continues to thrive, producing over 15,000 knives daily and more than five million annually. Participating in international fairs and exporting to over 78 countries, the family is dedicated to advancing Turkey's cutlery industry.

By becoming a part of the Pirge family, you too can help this story endure for centuries, spreading happiness from Bursa to the world.
